Cyclo-Separator
The Cyclo-Separator is a more budget-conscious version of the Cyclosizer designed as a workhorse separator instead of an accurate particle sizer – but with additional features:
- Ability to pump in dilute water-suspended sample (for C6 pre-separation underflow).
- Lower Capital Cost – No expensive sample container, no manual flow control valve and reduced brasswork.
- Handling Improvements around Cyclone Drain Tubes, Beakers etc.

Pre-Cycloning with a C6 cyclone is a task typically performed prior to Cyclosizing. The diluted underflow from the C6 cyclone is then filtered, dried, weighed and passed through a Cyclosizer to extract the C1 to C5 fractions. This can be quite a lengthy process.
The Cyclo-Separator allows you to introduce the diluted C6 underflow (with the oversize portion of the sample) into the system where it can then be passed through the C1 to C5 Cyclones. To achieve this the typical Cyclosizer sample container and flowmeter can’t be used.
The Cyclo-Separator sacrifices measurement accuracy to achieve cost reductions, task reductions and improve practicality. While effective separations may end up being as accurate as that achieved with a typical Cyclosizer it is not the intent of the Cyclo-Separator to be the measuring tool that the Cyclosizer is. It is a separator.
It is recommended to perform a laser sizing on each fraction after extraction to assess the particle size distribution within each cyclone. The benefit of the Cyclo-Separator is you will be able to chemically analyse that fraction – which you can’t do with a laser sizer.
